Reinforcement Learning-Assisted Management for Convertible SSDs

DescriptionThe convertible SSD is a device delivering both high access performance and large capacity with the features of dynamical conversion between different types of flash cells. In this paper, we proposed a management scheme for convertible SSD, called RL-cSSD. RL-cSSD considers the garbage collection, data allocation and flash conversion to make people well use the convertible SSDs. For the data allocation, a new level-based scheme is used to enhance the performance and prolong the lifetime of convertible SSDs. Moreover, we uses a reinforcement learning based scheme to determine the conversion between different flash cells based on the incoming request patterns.
