Hybrid Gate-Pulse Model for Variational Quantum Algorithms
DescriptionQuantum algorithms are usually designed with quantum gates but compiled into pulses to execute on hardware, introducing redundancy for control signals. Directly working on pulse-level can reduce latency. However, current works are limited by scalability due to larger parameter space for pulse design and lack of algorithmic design knowledge inherited from gate-level. Thus, We present a hybrid gate-pulse model that fixed part of the algorithm within the knowledge at the gate-level but conducts pulse-level optimization for problem-agnostic parts. We demonstrate the efficiency of this framework in discrete optimization problems. Our approach improves algorithmic performance and duration over existing gate models.
