Move-On-Cover: An Efficient Secure Deletion Strategy for Interlaced Magnetic Recording
DescriptionSecure deletion is critical to privacy and confidentiality protection, and can be easily achieved by overwriting on the emerging interlaced magnetic recording (IMR). However, in the rapid development of magnetic storage technology, existing secure deletion strategies are still oblivious to IMR characteristics, leading to write amplification and performance loss.
In this paper, we propose move-on-cover (MOC), a first secure deletion strategy for securely deleting on IMR. MOC hides secure deletion latency of bottom tracks by exploiting track moving, minimizing redundant data backups. The results show that MOC is highly effective in reducing extra I/Os and improving secure deletion performance.
