Hybrid Obfuscation of Chiplet-Based Systems
DescriptionHorizontal obfuscation, the second obfuscation mechanism (in addition to vertical obfuscation) within the Split-Fabric hardware security methodology, is proposed in this paper. Furthermore, a robust metric to quantify the trust level and two design-for-trust guidelines for the effective employment of the two security mechanisms, are introduced.
The tradeoffs between the trust level and overhead (area, wirelength, power, and delay) are analyzed through several experiments. Results confirm the effectiveness of horizontal obfuscation when combined with the vertical mechanism. For a similar level of trust, the proposed approach exhibits up to three orders of magnitude lower overhead, compared to other obfuscation approaches.
